WHAKAPAPA RIVER – RAFT/FISHING
Rafting New Zealand in conjunction with Andrew Christmas Fishing Guides bring you another GEM Raft/Fishing adventure.
The Whakapapa River is one of the most stunning rivers which flows from our local Volcanoes and boasts some of the most impressive scenery and amazing fishing.
Both Rainbow and Brown trout grow to huge sizes in this river and some big number days can be achieved by a competent angler.
All styles of fishing will be productive here but as it is a fairly deep flowing river so we generally use nymphs to target these Wiley trout. Not considered an “easy” river to fish - your Guide - Andrew Christmas will ensure you get as many opportunities possible to hook one of these wild beasts which are known for their extra strong fighting strength and their ability to escape even the most experienced of anglers.
Using the raft will again get you to areas which are not fished often and seldom see anglers, so you can expect the river to be free of fisherman most days. Our trip will start in thick native forest before entering a deep inaccessible gorge which will in the end push us out between typical New Zealand rolling hill farm land.
All sorts of wildlife will be on the river with us ranging from native birdlife, such as, Tui's, Fantails and the Kereru (native Pigeon), also larger game animals, such as, Red Deer, Pig's and Wild Goats can be encountered.
The best time of year to take on this challenging trip, is between October to March - depending on water levels - as we need it to be low and clear so we can find the trout a little easier.
Everything will be provided for you on this trip and you can expect the very best service when booking this adventure. All you need to bring is plenty of energy and a great sense of humour."
